Duties and Responsibilities: We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our team at UK IDEA in a pivotal role supporting several new research projects, focusing prominently on community engagement and benefits plans. As part of this position, you will engage extensively with community stakeholders including government officials, educational institutions, businesses and individuals within Eastern Kentucky and Lexington communities about the UK IDEA clean environmental technologies. The communities may be expanded as additional projects are awarded. Your responsibilities will encompass in-depth research into these communities' social and environmental justice issues, as well as diversification efforts within these communities. You will play a key role in crafting comprehensive community benefits plans and proposals tailored to specific projects, ensuring they align with our commitment to fostering sustainable and equitable development. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to impactful initiatives that positively influence communities across various domains.

Physical Requirements: Sitting, walking, standing. Occasional lifting, pulling, or pushing of objects.

Shift: Monday – Friday during typical working hours such as 8:00am – 5:00pm (40 hours/week). Some nights and weekends may be required based on workload needs.

Job Summary: The Program Coordinator II provides a comprehensive technical extension program for stakeholders in the UK IDEA Group site-based research projects. Responsibilities include collecting, analyzing and communicating data from the programming efforts, and building and maintaining partnerships. Sites include but are not limited to Eastern Kentucky, Cane Run Generating Station, and Meadville, PA.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate must be safety conscious, self-motivated, reliable and able to work in multiple locations. It is vital that this position collaborates with fellow researchers and has the ability to work both independently and with a team. Because of compelling public safety requirements, this position may require pre-employment drug screening and follow-up random drug and alcohol screenings.

Job Summary: The positions at UK IDEA offer an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual to perform cutting edge research work in CO2 capture from point sources, CO2 removal from air and ocean, hydrogen production, material recycling from energy storage devices and intermittent renewable energy generating devices. 

Desired Skills / Knowledge / Abilities: 
Note that it is not necessary to possess all of these skills and we may also consider related skills.

  • Possess good understanding of general engineering concepts and knowledge, e.g., chemical kinetics, heat transfer and mass transfer properties, and thermodynamics particularly as related to chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, and environmental engineering.
  • Experienced in process integration, process flow diagrams and piping and instrumentation diagrams, and reactor design using computer aided designing tools, e.g., AutoCAD, execution particularly as related to integrated process units with entry/middle-level knowledge of process automation, e.g., Raspberry Pi coupled with python or equivalent, data collection, analysis, visualization using Excel, python, MATLAB, etc.
  • Be able to work both independently with brief guidance, strong hands-on ability with a “can-do” attitude, and passion for learning new things everyday. 
  • Track record in data analysis and manuscript preparation.
